Important Dates
June 19: AM provincial exam tutorial sessions; PM provincial exam
June 18: Short Fiction Exam and all outstanding texts hand in
April 20: Grad Narratives due to Mr. Hamilton
April 21: Mock Provincial Exam: all English 12 students will write a practice En 12 exam. This exam will be weighted like a unit test for your term 3 grade, but more importantly, will help prepare you for the types of literature, questions and writing tasks that will appear on the Provincial Exam on June 19. Mr. Hamilton will go over the format of the exam and some strategies/samples beforehand, but I also recommend that you review on your own using the Ministry of Education Site. English 12 students should also be familiar with the Glossary of Literary Terms.
April 30: Life of Pi unit exam. Here are the vocabulary terms that are examinable in a multiple choice format.
March 5: Book Club project due. Presentations commence after spring break. See Planbook Feb. 22 for assignment, but essentially, you will spend a few minutes introducing your novel. Then you will launch into an aspect of the novel or author that you found particularly interesting. Remember to include plot details only insofar as they help with the clarity of your presentation- don't simply stand up and summarize your novel. Interesting elements to focus on could be aspects of the author's life that have informed the novel; the importance of the setting on the themes/characters/mood; one specific character and how that character changes, or reminds you of other characters from other works; a collection of songs, poems or photos or paintings that could be used for a soundtrack or storyboard for your novel, etc. Remember: be creative and select aspects of the novel that you are excited about. The presentation should have a multi-media approach and take around 10 minutes.
