A WORD ON "I" REPORTS: If you receive an "I" on part or a whole of an assignment, it means that you are not yet meeting the expectations for that assignment or component of the assignment. This is a great opportunity! In most cases, Mr. Hamilton will show in a rubric or commentary how you can achieve competency. After a discussion with him where you agree upon a new completion date, you will be allowed to revise the assignment and resubmit WITH THE ORIGINAL AND RUBRIC ATTACHED. It will then be re-assessed to see if it then meets the competencies for the assignment.

Headlines/Sidelines for Q1 and Q4
In other news... HEADLINES AND SIDELINES for 2020-2021 continues to include beat correspondents (people that are assigned to cover certain areas of the world/issues. Each 'beat' will have at least one group of reporters covering it. Try to cover stories that have different 'tones' on your beat (that is, it's important for the important Headline to be covered, but also try a Sideline which may explore a human interest, uplifting, or humourous story on the beat). You will required to investigate the story using at least two sources. If the 'facts' are different, this make be worth noting and considering why. Make sure not to cover the exact same story (either on your beat, or across different beats. That being said, it is often interesting to see the interconnectedness of news stories, so it is ok to report on how the story affects your beat. Remember, that communication between reporters and across beats is essential. Prepare a powerpoint or similar presentation where your group teaches us about your story, answering at least the journalistic "5 W's". Also, remember to engage the audience with inquiry afterwards- allow them to think about and engage with your story.
